Where the streets have no name.

Images via What Do I Wear tumblr, Vanessa Jackman & Stockholm Streetstyle
More and more I'm being inspired and drawn to street style images. I know they've been popular since the birth of sliced bread but they've never appealed to me in a way where I find myself taking ideas away from them, instead I'd turn to editorials and photographs. I don't know what was wrong with me for so long, they teach you so much about pairing clothes together and original ways of wearing certain items.
You become spellbound by some regulars who are always cropping up, inspirited and eager to see what they'll wear next. Somebody described my tumblr as a street style blog so it is quite clearly is taking over. I must be making up for all that lost time.

Artefact of the moment: Embroidered Penguin Classics

I couldn't believe my eyes when I woke from a sleepy haze and checked out the Christmas section Anthropologie has started to collate on their site. I adore Penguin and have sung their praises often over how they are consistently thinking of new ways to inspire people and encourage reading. Whether that be through selling classics of all shapes and sizes at a single rate of £2 or by celebrating the fact that although you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover it still helps to have an aesthetically beautiful bound book adorning your shelf. I thought they achieved this with their reworking of a bunch of Penguin Classics into a totally bewitching clothbound collection that you could forever treasure and slowly build into a complete set. They are the most perfect gifts because they go beyond the story inside; I always find myself cherishing a book that little bit more when a lovely personal inscription has been written to you inside. The few Penguin Clothbound's that I have had gifted to me, I know I will forever treasure.
So in this beguiling dream Penguin have me spellbound in the past couple of years or so, I have been pretty aware of the jewels they offered, keeping regular checks on their site, that was until I stumbled upon these three.
Commissioned by Penguin, Jillian Tamaki embroidered this trio which rains over the Kindle's parade with it's charming, tactile texture adding to the enduring masterful story told from within.

More information on Jillian Tamaki's work can be found here on her blog and I found the triad available to purchase on Anthropolgie's site here.

Rebel

Having blogged about dressing like a school student during the day yesterday, I went ahead and did just that last night as I went out to London to attend a photography exhibition where my brother's work was showing. I wore an old Zara grey dress as a pinafore over a Peter Pan collared shirt and tied a bow around my neck with a simple piece of black ribbon bought from a haberdasher's. I then donned my black leather jacket (Zara) and added a touch of Mac's 'Rebel' lipstick to my lips.

Hitting the books.

Shirt & platforms both (Cos), red lace-ups (Topshop), pinafore skirt (Sister Jane via Topshop)
I have mathematically calculated that I want to dress up like a school pupil. I know Halloween has been and gone but this isn't a fancy dress kind of thing. It appears to have become one of my chosen looks for the winter and I subtract from this post that it would be a great addition to my wardrobe.

Schools in for winter.

Lost Seasons.

Dismal days darken the mind,
black, browns and greys leak onto our skins.
Melancholy at the harsh bleak winter.
Skeletal trees exposed to stark conditions,
stripped of it's salubrious frond.
The frost creeps,
paralysing all it conceals.
Forgotten are the days of bloom and blossom,
of new life and grand assortments of colour.
Thick fogs of warm beauteous aroma
suffusing the summer air.
Nothing is left but the winter.
The earth is cleansed and purified
by it's glacial elements
to make way for the rebirth.
Those days will return.
Minds will once again remember.
Remember the days of bloom and blossom,
of new life and grand assortments of colour.
